Costas, Whitlock,Drudge: SHUT UP!

Happy Monday, America!  Welcome to another glorious day in the land of the misguided media who feel it’s better to tell us what to think than tell us the facts and let us decide for ourselves.

CASE #1: Last night, during a Sunday Night Football broadcast, Bob Costas – yes, the SPORTS guy – made it clear that Jovan Belcher didn’t kill his girlfriend or himself; Jovan Belcher’s GUN did.  And to make it even better, Costas didn’t even have the stones – or the work ethic - to come up with his own rant about it; he stole his spew from Jason Whitlock, a Kansas City newspaper columnist, who blamed “our current gun culture”. In his piece, Whitlock claims that the focus will inappropriately shift toward Belcher’s health issues:

“In the coming days, Belcher’s actions will be analyzed through the lens of concussions and head injuries. Who knows? Maybe brain damage triggered his violent overreaction to a fight with his girlfriend. What I believe is, if he didn’t possess/own a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today.”

AND, Mr. Whitlock (and Mr. Costas, if you’re reading along), the analysis will also wind through Belcher’s alcohol and painkiller abuse.  And the wild parties he had at his house.  And the troublesome relationship he had with his girlfriend over the entire course of their relationship.

Mr. Whitlock, and CopyCat Costas, whether the story is about concussion trauma, drug & alcohol addiction, a non-existent moral code, the phase of the moon or the price of tea in China, as far as your job is concerned, it WASN’T about gun control.  As far as your job is concerned, it is about how the Chiefs respond, how the league responds, and what’s happened on the field over the weekend.

CASE #2: Today on Drudge, the big link is a story about the Obamas putting up 54 Christmas trees in the Green House – er, White House this year.    Thank you, Andrew Malcolm and Matt Drudge for crap that doesn’t matter.

Yeah, I agree it’s rather wasteful.  Yeah, I agree that it’s ironic that the pro-environmental Prez has half a forest chopped down for the White House.  Yeah, it’s even more ironic, because the Obamas aren’t even going to be there over Christmas (they’ll be back in Hawaii, of course).  Yeah, it’s another slap in the face of Americans who would love to have a decent Christmas this year, but the economy has laid the smack down on that idea.

With all that being said, could we talk about issues, please?

Why doesn’t somebody put on their big-boy investigative journalist pants, get all Woodward & Bernstein, and pin the administration to the wall on Benghazi?  FOUR AMERICANS WERE MURDERED, THE WHITE HOUSE KNEW, AND DIDN’T GIVE THE ORDER TO HELP THEM!!

Why doesn’t anybody give these goofs in Congress a real shakedown on the fiscal cliff?  EVERYONE should be getting buried on this stuff, regardless of political party.

Unemployment?

Middle East crises?

Andrew Malcolm, you’re better than this!  “54 Trees”?  Are you kidding me?

Matt Drudge, REALLY?  “54 Trees” is the best you’ve got?

BOTTOM LINE: DO YOUR JOB.  Stop writing “pieces” and start writing NEWS.  Save your opinions for your inner circle of friends who may actually care about what you think.

And no, there’s no hypocrisy here, because I never claimed to be a journalist.  :)
